Yep, Alaska is way more awesome than Texas. At least, that’s what we like to tell ourselves. It all has to do with being the biggest. We are over twice the size of Texas.1 And we take serious pride in that.
The funny thing is that Alaska has the second smallest population out of all fifty states (700,000 people). It’s only beaten by Wyoming (500,000 people). So our bragging rights are greatly decreased by that fact. (Generally, in an argumentative article like this, the author would pretend that such statistics were nonexistent.)
However, I would argue that this fact is inconsequential to the fundamental principle that WE ARE THE BIGGEST!
Don’t forget, that Alaska is home to Denali (also known as Mount McKinley), the biggest mountain from base to peak. And Denali is the tallest mountain in the US when measured from sea level. Where are your mountains, Texas?
Another random big fact: we have the largest temperate rainforest in the world. Beat that!
On top of that, Alaska contains many giant national parks (Wrangell Saint Elias National Park is the largest in the US!). Unfortunately, there are actually a lot of disadvantages to that (no hunting, backpacking without a highly regulated permit, or snow machining in any national park). Still, they are quite huge. That is what matters right now.
All-in-all our wilderness is quite impressive. Who knows how big that is? Depends on how you measure it. The point is: WE ARE THE BIGGEST!2

- You may notice that none of these statistics are cited. That’s because my brother and I have them committed to memory. Now you know how much we care. ↩︎
- Meanwhile, I laugh at my state rivalry and messed up values. ↩︎
One response to “Alaskan Culture: WE ARE THE BIGGEST”
Sorry, but I have to strongly disagree with you saying that Alaska is better than Texas. Texas is by far much better.
1. We were our own country for nine years.
2. We have cowboys. (Not to be confused with the Dallas Cowboys, they really suck)
3. Dallas Population in and of itself is almost twice the population of Alaska as a whole.
4. We have the Alamo.
5. It’s Texas
6. Y’all is an actual word here
I’m only writing this because I’m a Texan, Texans are very prideful about Texas. I’ll at least say Alaska is OK, But Texas is much better.
