Dihydrogen monoxide: A powerful chemical

A chemistry student attending the University of Maine just created a small quantity of the incredibly useful substance known as dihydrogen monoxide (also called hydric acid). 

After combining a certain ratio of gasses in a flask, the student passed an electrical current through the mixture, resulting in the creation of the liquid form of dihydrogen monoxide (DHMO). Other chemists noted that this process would be useful if implemented in fuel cells.

DHMO has many uses. It is

  • an excellent health supplement when taken orally
  • one of the best solvents for use in medical research
  • energy production
  • a safe and natural preservative

While it is a lesser-known use, DHMO is also a powerful radiation shield, and it has been considered in designs for interplanetary spacecraft.

The chemistry student in Maine has been lauded for his effective approach in creating DHMO. His method is sure to provide a strong foundation for his future work in the world of chemistry.

The student’s professor advised his student to keep some of the DHMO to add to his morning coffee (after it has been purified), and that he can donate the rest to the world so it can be used in medical research. Or, someday, in future spacecraft.

  1. I take dihydrogen monoxide every day. Honestly, I wouldn’t be able to survive without it! It’s definitely a powerful chemical – I’m addicted to it! It’s a good thing it comes with health benefits :).

  2. Wow! That’s incredible, I think it could change the world as we know it if everyone around the world could get dihydrogen monoxide using this method. I have found enormous benefits to taking dihydrogen monoxide and think the world needs to use it more in areas of research and life.
